By John HoodIIn the land of EDM, there may be no barometer held in higher regard than DJ Mag’s Top 100. For a headspinner even to make the grade is a sure harbinger of success; to keep making the grade means the kind of success upon which only the wildest dreams are made.
Just ask superstar DJ Fedde Le Grand, who for five out of the last five years has cracked DJ Mag’s Top 30 — and who has wildly reaped the rewards as a result. As every DJ worth his rank knows though, one doesn’t vault to such great heights without tons of help from their fans. So to thank them all, the Dutch houseman is giving away his triumphant new track, “Feel the Love”.
But don’t think for a beat that’s all Le Grand’s got goin’ on. In addition to the giveaway, Fedde’s just dropped The Remixes of “Twisted” on his own Flamingo Recordings. And to be sure everyone gets to hear why this heavyweight DJ stays all the rage, the Ultra Music man is ending summer by staging everywhere from Ljubljana (Laguna) to London (South West Four), before three Labor Day dates of doubles, one in both Las Vegas (Encore Beach Club) and Scottsdale (Maya Beach Club), another in both Miami (Space) and Atlanta (Imagine Music Festival), and a third in New York (Electric Zoo and Pacha).
And for all you Twisted Fedde Le Grand fans out there who really Feel the Love, make sure your man stays in the upper reaches of DJ Mag’s Top 100 by voting right here. And then read on for the Fedde Le Grand interview:
ADANAI: For those who don’t know, who is Fedde Le Grand and why should everyone dig his beats?
Fedde Le Grand: I’m just a guy with an insane love for music who has been lucky enough to make his job out of it!! Ever since the massive success of “Put Your Hands Up For Detroit” I’ve been in the top 30 of the DJ Mag top 100 and have played the biggest festivals around the world from Tomorrowland, EDC and Ultra. The only ones who’ve made this dream come through for me are my fans, so the only thing I may love more or just as much as music are them.
How’d you get to DJ Mag’s Top 30 anyway?
Hard work and dedication. I love what I do. I am a perfectionist in the studio. Every track I produce must sound exactly how I envision it. If it’s not perfect, I refuse to release it. It may take me months just to finish one track.
Is “Twisted” going to put you over the top?
Of course! This track is one of my better productions. I’m experimenting with a heavier electro sound.
What other current tracks might help push you over the threshold?
I’m particularly proud of my recent release “Don’t Give Up”. I think that’s just a solid track that really has the potential to stay relevant over time. Next to that I’m also super happy with “Feel The Love”
Speaking of which, why’d you decide to give away “Feel The Love”?
I gave it away to thank my fans for all their support. I wouldn’t be anyone if it weren’t for you guys. So it’s basically saying that I definitely have felt the love!
What else might dance fans expect from Fedde Le Grand?
More music. I’m going to be spending the majority of this year focusing on my production side.
And how should your fans prepare?
Keep an open mind. I’m always looking for new stuff, trying out new things, so who knows what I’ll come up with
