10: Fontainebleau hotel in Miami, Florida
This whirlwind evening/night/early morning consists of two separate parties that could each stand alone as a once in a lifetime event. Starting at 9pm, ADANAI’s favorite producer/singer/rapper Pharrell will take the stage with superstar DJ Afrojack at the Fontainebleau pool. After bringing in the New Year outside, the hardcore partiers can walk inside to LIV where Tiesto will carry them into the wee hours of the morning.
9: Electric New Year’s Eve Ball with Carl Cox in Cape Town, South Africa
Carl Cox has a global following. His sets at Space in Ibiza are legendary. If you like to dance, this is the place to be as it promises hours and hours of transcendent music. The beauty of it is that you can recover the next day on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
8: Las Vegas: Kaskade at XS or Calvin Harris at Hakkasan
Take your pick of the two because Las Vegas is made for New Year’s Eve and these clubs are made for partying. In Las Vegas, the party never has to end and EVERYONE is there to go hard. This year, Las Vegas expects 335,000 visitors for NYE to generate approximately $213 million of non-gaming revenue. No wonder the likes of Kaskade and Calvin Harris get paid so much.
7: Sundance New Year’s Eve at Nasimi Beach, Atlantis The Palm in Dubai
The only city in the world that rivals Las Vegas for over the top partying is Dubai. Most parties hire one world class DJ to attract the masses. In Dubai, they hire three; Paul Oakenfold, Axwell of Swedish House Mafia and house legend Pete Tong.
6: Cameo in Miami with Lil Wayne
Cameo in South Beach has been known to create some interesting marketing tactics (last year they broke out the $100,000 table). This year they don’t need anything gimmicky because they have Lil Wayne and Lil Wayne always gives his fans their money’s worth. If you’ve only seen Twerking on YouTube or in a Miley Cyrus video, check this party out – the Twerking center of the universe come New Year’s Eve.
5: Copacabana Beach – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Unofficially the largest New Year’s Eve party in the world – over two million people are expected to swarm this partier’s paradise. Imagine Carnival but without the religious overlay. And like Cape Town, there couldn’t be a better place to recover than on the amazing beaches of Rio.
4: Hotel Marina Park – Fortaleza, Brazil
Frankly, this list could be filled five times over with New Year’s Eve parties in Brazil – Florianopolis, Camboriu and Porto Alegre to name a few. But, the New Year’s Eve (Reveillon in Brazil) party at Hotel Marina Park is the stand out. It is chic (8,000 attendees wear all white) and traditional at the same time (Chiclete com Banana, a popular folksy Brazilian band, performs every year). Well worth the expensive price tag, each ticket includes all you can eat lobster, steak and fish. Each person also gets a bottle of champagne and a bottle of vodka. Oh and everyone is gorgeous. Hmmm….maybe this should be #1.
3: Nikki Beach with David Guetta in St. Barths
Simply put, St. Barths is one of the most exclusive places in the world and David Guetta reigns as the most popular DJ in the world. Add in celebs like Russell Simmons and Stephanie Seymour and you have got a can’t miss event.
2: Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in Times Square, New York
Nobody will ever call this the hippest party in the world but the iconic event is watched around the globe and the Times Square ball drop has become the symbol of the new year. This year Miley Cyrus, Blondie, Macklemore and Icona Pop will headline. Most New Yorkers wouldn’t be caught dead near Times Square on NYE but when you look at the people on TV, they sure as hell appear to be having a lot of fun.
Despite being an amazing nightlife city, New York is one of the worst when it comes to New Year’s Eve parties. It is impossible to get around, every nightclub and restaurant tries to price gouge and the weather can be horrendous. If people thought Uber was guilty of taking advantage during the snowstorm a few weeks ago, just wait until NYE.
1: House Party / Stay at Home
Ringing in the New Year should be done with good friends and family. Spending enormous amounts of money to rub shoulders with strangers is not the way to go. Save your money and have a few friends over. Better yet, spend New Year’s Eve with your significant other with a nice bottle of champagne and some good food. Chances are your night will end a lot better (wink wink) and you will actually remember it the next morning. Now that’s taking a cup of kindness yet for Auld Lang Syne.
